George Young passed away at the age of 70. Young was born in Scotland, but emigrated to Australia at the age of 17. Once in Scotland, George Young formed the Easybeats with Herry Vanda, which had international success with "Friday on my Mind." George Young and Vanda then went on to act as producers, and produced AC/DC's recordings through If You Want Blood, You've Got It. AC/DC included George Young's two younger brothers, Malcolm and Angus Young. In 1988, George Young and Vanda were induced into the ARIAA hall fo fame.

George Young also returned to produce AC/DC's 1988 album Blow Up Your Video and 2000's Stiff Upper Lip.

AC/DC stated via their Facebook account, "It is with pain in our heart that we have to announce the passing of our beloved brother and mentor George Young. Without his help and guidance there would not have been an AC/DC. As a musician, songwriter, producer, advisor and much, much more, you could not ask for a more dedicated and professional man. As a brother, you could not ask for a finer brother. For all he did and gave to us throughout his life, we will always remember him with gratitude and hold him close to our hearts."
